The Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, part of the Academy of Music FHNW in Basel, Switzerland, is offering the position of
Professor for Historical Violoncello (30%), successor to Christophe Coin
beginning in the academic year 2023/24.
Your duties: to teach Historical Violoncello ("Baroque Cello") in styles and repertoires from the Renaissance through the Classical/Romantic eras, with a focus on the Baroque. You are responsible for students from foundational bachelor's studies through master's studies with the highest artistic expectations. Chamber music and orchestra practice are important aspects to the studies alongside the solistic training.
Your profile: you possess an advanced degree (diploma/master) in violoncello and have a successful international career in Early Music, as a solist as well as in ensemble and orchestra settings. You have an in-depth understanding of repertoires and sources related to historical string playing from the 16th through the early 19th centuries and can read original notation. You bring considerable experience in continuo playing and improvisation. Either through a pedigogical degree or through pedagogical experience at the tertiary level you have obtained a formal didactical qualification in higher education, or you are prepared to acquire one in the first years of your employment.
