The music of Antonio Vivaldi is in extricably linked to Venice. It is therefore only natural to introduce a new international generation of musicians to his music for the first time in a summer academy dedicated to Vivaldi, driven by the latest developments in Vivaldi research and performance practice.

The Accademia Vivaldi is an initiative of Soprano Gemma Bertagnolli and Thomas Albert, the responsible for the Akademie für Alte Musik Bremen, together with the Fondazione Cini on San Giorgio and the Istituto Italiano Antonio Vivaldi, led by Francesco Fanna. The Istituto Italiano Antonio Vivaldi celebrates its 70. anniversary (1947-2017). A team of teachers from the Akademie für Alte Musik Bremen together with acclaimed international guests will run an Academy on the Isola San Giorgio at the magnificent premises of the Fondazione Cini, opposite the Biblioteca Marciana, San Marco and Vivaldi's church La Pietà.

An extensive range of courses will be on offer and students will receive both one-to-one and ensemble tuition, during which they will work on Vivaldi's solo compositions, his chamber music and religious works, as well as his colourful concerti. The course will culminate in a concert performance of Vivaldi's opera „Teuzzone“, based on a new edition by the Istituto Vivaldi and driven by an intensive exchange of ideas with specialists in the field of Musicology and History of Art.

Concerts have also been planned across the city, at locations, which suit the repertoires: La Pietà, Fondazione Cini, the Biblioteca Marciana, the Scuola Grande di San Rocco.
