The year started with the participation of AEC Executive Committee and AEC CEO to the Opening ceremony of the new campus of the Royal College of Music in Stockholm (KMH), which enabled the AEC representatives to network with representatives of various Nordic higher music education institutions (26 January 2017).

As part of its recent policy to better identify its members’ needs, AEC is working on intensifying contacts and discussions with large institutions to collect their specific needs and wishes. Thus, AEC President met with the Director of the Royal College of Music (20 February 2017) while AEC CEO and General Manager met with the Director of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (13 March 2017).

AEC continued its active involvement at the European policy level:

  • Representatives of the Council for Doctoral Education (CDE) of the European Universities Association (EUA) were invited AEC office to establish contact and discuss how artistic research can be integrated into a broader framework of research structures (8 February 2017).
  • Representatives of the Steering Committee for the Harmonization of the European Music Education (SCHEME) from AEC, EMU (European Music School Union) and EAS (European Association of Music Schools) participated in a meeting organized by the European Music Council (EMC) in Bonn dedicated to the development of the European Agenda for Music as a whole and more specifically, within the Music Education sector (10 February 2017).
  • AEC CEO was invited by the former President of the Committee on Culture and Education of the European Parliament, Silvia Costa, to present AEC’s perspective with regard to the draft report produced by the Culture and Education and the Foreign Affairs Committees of the European Parliament concerning the establishment of an effective EU strategy for international cultural relations (22 March 2017).
