Climate, Equality & Peace: The “Leonardo 4 Music” Awards

The 5th edition of “Leonardo 4 Children” non-profit initiative includes Awards focused on Climate, Equality and Peace.

The Awards are open from November 2022 until 31 May 2023, the 10 winners for each category will be announced by the Juries in June 2023 and the Award ceremony will take place in October 2023. 

The initiative allows young music composers to use and develop their creativity and artistic skills to orchestrate topics ranging from climate change and environmental sustainability to equality including gender and social equality, and peace.

The Awards also include a new talent development programme with a budget for each winner (€ 300 for the top 3 winners, € 200 for the winners nr. 4-10) to further develop their skills in art & science, recognition, promotion and publication of the winning works.

Applicants can take as a source of inspiration a fable or a work by Leonardo da Vinci, an original work by winners of the previous editions of Leonardo 4 Children, a movie scene, or a poem/story on the topics of climate, equality or peace.

The authors of the works eligible for the awards shall be young people legally resident in a Member State of the European Union, aged between 16 and 30 years old at the date of submission, enrolled in or graduated from a High School / Conservatory / Music School.

The formal application to the award shall be submitted by adult participants (aged 18-30) or by the responsible adults of minor applicants (aged 16-17), for example teachers or parents, having the approval of the legal representatives of the participants to take part in the award and subscribe to these “Terms and conditions.”

The 1st winning composer will be offered the opportunity to use her/his music composition for a campaign or a promotional video for UNICEF Belgium. The 2nd winning composer will be offered the opportunity to use her/his music composition for the promotional video and campaign of “Leonardo 4 Children” non-profit initiative.

The 3 works with the best scoring will receive an award, which will consist of: 

  • Talent development programme, with a budget of € 500 for the 1st winner and € 300 for the 2nd and 3rd winner, which can be used for developing the music skills of winners, for example via workshops, visits or material; For the 2nd winner, the special “Ermanno Testi” prize of € 300, dedicated to the memory of Ermanno Testi, who passed away on 15 October 2022. 
  • Live performance of the winning music works at the award ceremony and concerts/events; promotion on the website, social media and promotional material, at public events, institutions or public places; 
  • Publication on the “Leonardo 4 Children” book; 
  • “Leonardo 4 Children” award certificate.
