The project Opera Out of Opera is now ready to go on stage with its "pocket-sized opera", a collection of the most famous arias selected by project partners from the most important operas ever written in order to build a new young audience (16-30 years old) for this genre. The first two performances will take place in Rome on 6 September (with a "flashmob" at Roma Fiumicino Airport) and 7 September in Rome city centre, and in Athens on 20 September at the Batis-Palaio Faliro.

The performances will make use of an interactive app for smartphone now available on Google Play and Apple Store under the name Opera Out of Opera. The app, co-designed by the AEC office staff, Conservatorio Santa Cecilia and a professional app developer, will provide the following functions:

  • give physically-present and remote audience access to content information about the arias performed on stage (including videos)
  • give physically-present and remote audience the possibility to choose the "opera plot" by choosing which arias come next during the live performance collect feedback from the audience The performances will also feature digital stage and lighting designed by a professional digital artist.
Two last performances will take place in Pamplona in February and in Salzburg in March 2020.
The project will be presented in Prague at the AEC Annual Meeting for IRCs and in Turin at the AEC Annual Congress and General Assembly.
