The overall goal of GENUS project is to raise the awareness of gender and equality perspectives in music education. Today in music education there is still a huge imbalance when it comes to gender; for this reason, the aim of the GENUS project is to equip students, teachers and leaders in music education with practical tools to make the gender balance more equal in the future.
The question of gender balance in Pop and Jazz has been addressed in the AEC Pop and Jazz Platform Conferences, during which three institutions came together and, after discussing possible actions to help to change the gender balance in Higher Music Education, decided to create the GENUS project.

This year the GENUS Conference will take place in Aalborg on 23-24 March. It will be focused on the years before reaching a higher music education: from different takes on preschool education to culture schools, music camps and role models.

The program is made up of smaller inputs from a lot of different people, leading to structured discussions in mixed groups. Our Professor In Residence; Cecilia Ferm Almqvist will start the conference with a keynote and will be present throughout the rest of the days to give her perspective on all the important matters we discuss.
