The Ludwig van Beethoven Department for Piano in Music Education at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna has announced the 5th edition of the Mauricio Kagel Composition Competition.
Since 2010, this competition has been dedicated to the promotion of contemporary piano literature for children and young people. The task is to compose a piano work that can be easily performed in the classroom and that provides young players with adequate artistic access to contemporary music. The submission of all compositions will take place digitally. The deadline for submission is 3 September 2021.
All compositions nominated for the final round will be performed at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna from 1-4 February 2022. This presentation of the compositions, the evaluation, and the final decision of the international jury will be streamed live on the Internet.
