The Opera InCanto project started in Autumn 2018 and is co-funded by the EU’s Creative Europe Programme. It aims at creating a new audience by educating new generations to know and appreciate opera by performing the most beautiful and famous arias of the opera repertoire.

After the successful dissemination events in September in Prague at the AEC Annual Meeting for International Relations Coordinators and in November in Turin at the AEC Congress and General Assembly, the project steering group met at the AEC office in Brussels to wrap up the first project year and share some important updates regarding the partnership and the activity calendar.

Two project partners, the Orquesta Reino de Aragòn (Spain) and the National Theatre in Split (Croatia) decided to leave the project for internal reasons while Le Piccole Canaglie, Brussels (Belgium) and the Istrian Popular Theatre in Pula (Croatia) joined Europa InCanto, Opera Leipzig and the AEC in the Opera InCanto adventure.

The project length is likely to be extended to Summer 2021 and the following events have been announced to take place:

  •  Dissemination Conference at the European Parliament in Brussels, 19 February 2020 followed by a flash mob by children in the Parliament esplanade;
  • Performance of Turandot with local school children in Pula – March 2021
  •  Performance of Turandot with local school children in Leipzig – 19-20 March 2021

The updated project results will be presented at the AEC Congress and General Assembly in Antwerp on 5-7 November 2020.
