On 26-27 March 2021, Cité de la musique-Philharmonie de Paris, in partnership with the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, organises an online conference titled "How can young musicians be trained to be professional orchestral players?". From the conference webpage:

Sensitive intelligence, shared creativity, sound accuracy and collective discipline are some of the skills used by musicians when playing in an orchestra. In the last few years, French and international orchestras – among them the Orchestre de Paris – have developed several orchestra academies, conceived on the model of sessions or curriculum. The comparison with existing models worldwide opens new perspectives to adapt the content of those programmes.

The conference programme addresses numerous topics within the following thematic sessions:

  • The experience of orchestral playing: courses and programmes;
  • Curriculum and orchestral programmes: the acquisition of the artistic skills to play within a collective;
  • Specialised repertoire and expected skills;
  • The formation to the life of an orchestra and to humanities;
  • Cultural mediation and healthcare.

Participation is free, with mandatory registration. A simultaneous translation will be available (French/English).
