Open Call – Research Participation : Students’ Experiences of Psychological Safety in the Conservatoire

About the research

Psychological Safety is previously unexplored within conservatoire learning cultures. Psychological Safety has been defined in two ways: 1) the belief that one will not be punished or humiliated for speaking up with challenges, concerns, or ideas and that the environment is safe for interpersonal risk-taking. 2) In elite sports settings, it has been defined as “feeling able to show and employ oneself without fear of negative consequences to self-image, status, or career” (p.558 Walton et al., 2023). 

Awareness of Psychological Safety in the conservatoire would give a greater understanding of your experiences as students; what has been beneficial and what has been potentially harmful during your studies. Having such information will help to inform conservatoires about best practice and give them further resources to support students’ wellbeing and learning.
