On Friday 5 February 2021, the European Music Council (EMC) hosted, as part of an ongoing series of presentations from among its members, a webinar titled European Agenda for access to music education, organised by the Steering Committee for the Harmonisation of European Music Education (SCHEME).
The SCHEME group, composed of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen (AEC), the European Music School Union (EMU) and the European Association for Music in Schools (EAS), jointly delivered a 90-minute interactive webinar, setting common pathways for the future of music education at all levels from kindergarten to Higher Music Education and discussing the challenges this might pose.
It was a successful opportunity to reach out to an audience far beyond the usual AEC community. More than 120 participants could update their knowledge on the topic. They split into breakout groups to exchange views on key issues such as diversity, audience engagement, social relevance of music and music education, smart and creative use of digital means.
The insightful contributions of the SCHEME representatives have been enriched by the speech delivered by MEP Domènec Ruiz Devesa (Culture and Education Committee), who also talked about the New European Bauhaus initiative.
The video recording and the presentations of the webinar are available here.
