The Pop and Jazz Platform Meeting 2019 (PJP) with the title Listen! took place at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, Norway on 15 and 16 February.

This year PJP welcomed Erling Aksal, Matthias Solli, Henrik Sveindal and Anika Nilles as main speakers. Moreover, the PJP participants had a chance to attend the concert of the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra and to welcome one of his members, famous jazz pianist Espen Berg as a speaker on the next day, where he shared his experiences and musical thoughts on listening with the PJP participants.

This year's PJP introduced two new features in the programme: “New connections” session and “surprise activity carrousel!”. The “New connection” session aimed at creating new networking opportunities among participants whereas “Surprise activity carrousel!” offered three activity sessions such as a body percussion imitation delivered by Udo Dahmen, an African dance activity by students of Dance studies and a bebop style activity by John Pål Inderberg.
Both novelties were accepted by the participants with great enthusiasm.

The “Open Floor” session has repeated its success from last year. 16 participants submitted their proposals on several topic such as innovative curriculum design, learning and teaching, new technologies in education, genre perspectives and intercultural, and international aspects of education. All successfully delivered their presentation.

Furthermore, participants had plenty of opportunity to meet and exchange ideas during breakout group discussions, networking moments, and virtual interaction via the dedicated conference app. The meeting was attended by 144 engaged participants.

At the end of the conference, there were meetings and workshops (open to students), which were organized by the VoCon (Vocal Teachers Group) that took place on Sunday as a spin-off of the event.

Curious about what happened at the #PJPTrondheim2019? The complete programme, the conference reader, as well as all the presentations are available on the AEC PJP conference webpage.

Last but not least, the AEC Pop and Jazz Platform Working Group chaired by Lars Andersson from Malmö Academy of Music officially welcomed two new members of the group:
Susanne Abbuehl (Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts) and Jere Laukkanen (Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, Department of Music). We would like to welcome you in the PJP group and wish you the best of luck in this new adventure!

The next gathering of the Pop and Jazz Platform will take place at KASK & Conservatorium / School of Arts in Gent, Belgium on 7-8 February 2020.

We are looking forward to seeing you there!
