Job offer
The library assistant is involved in all access services for the Music Library, including staffing the circulation desk, circulation of library materials, shelving and stacks management, reserves, first-line reference, and public services and outreach activities. The person in this position will coordinate all operations and workflows for the area, operating at a high level of independence.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
1. Library Circulation Duty - Participate in access services activities, including handling circulation issues; creating, maintaining, and improving stack-maintenance procedures; answering reference and directional questions; identifying and resolving complex problems relating to access services; and making items available in a timely fashion.
2. Library Marketing - Assist in library outreach efforts, including participating in the library’s social media efforts, advertising online and in-house collection, creating library resource guides, etc.
3. Library Collection Development & Maintenance
- Acquisition. Assist in item ordering, processing, paperwork with the Customs Office, and purchasing card reconciliation.
- Run Inventory. Detect missing items to match database status and replace worn or lost materials; weed materials that are no longer needed in the collection.
4. Maintain co-worker effectiveness and good attendance by maintaining good relationships with co-workers, collaborating with other departments, participating in outreach activities, working regularly scheduled hours, and covering hours of other library staff when necessary or absent.

- Evidenced ability to work effectively with people of diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Experience in contributing to the development and implementation of public services policies.
- Demonstrated critical thinking and independent decision-making skills.
Qualifications
Required:
- Native or near-native English proficiency (oral and written)
- Bachelor’s degree
Preferred:
- Demonstrated knowledge of basic library practices and procedures.
- Spanish proficiency
- Bachelor’s degree in Librarianship, Music, Musicology, or related field.
- Master’s degree
- Experience working in an educational setting
- Musical background and/or knowledge
HOURS OF WORK
Monday to Friday, 10:30-12:00 & 13:00-19:00 (on-campus)
