The Anton Bruckner Private University is a public corporation and is funded by the State of Upper Austria. It was accredited as a private university in 2004. We offer our approximately 850 students artistic, artistic-pedagogical and artistic-scientific degree programmes in the fields of music, drama and dance. Senior Lecturer for Ensemble Conducting, Arrangement and Jazz Theory (f/m/d)


  • Scope of employment: 16 hours per week, including 9 hours of teaching per week (40,91% of full employment)
  • Duration of employment: initially limited to three years; in case of positive evaluation permanent employment
  • Classification: Salary group C (LD 10 of the Upper Austrian Salary Act 2001)
  • Remuneration: gross monthly salary from EUR 1,885.78 (depending on creditable previous service)
  • End of application period: February 20th, 2025
  • Selection procedure:
    Preselection by appointment committee;
    Hearing incl. teaching sample expected on April 11th, 2025
  • Planned start of employment: October 1st, 2025
  • Organizational unit: Institute for Jazz and Improvised Music (JIM)



Requirements


1. Employment requirements:

  • Experience in the field of ensemble conducting and active work as a composer and performer
  • Expertise in jazz instrumentation, arrangement, harmony, theory and composition
  • A domestic or equivalent foreign higher education qualification appropriate to the position
  • Regular attendance at the Anton Bruckner Private University and participation in academic self-administration are part of the duty.



2. Desired qualifications:

  • International artistic presence
  • Extensive teaching experience
  • Stylistic knowledge of non-European music
  • Willingness to cooperate and ability to work in a team
  • Gender and diversity competence


Role & Responsibilities

  • Teaching courses in the fields of jazz theory, arrangement, composition, large ensemble (jazz orchestra), small ensemble
  • Teaching courses of relevant supplementary subjects such as Percussion technique, music notation , interdisciplinary workshop projects
  • Organization, implementation and musical direction of courses and artistic projects in the context of jazz, improvisation and performance
  • Organizational activities in handling student projects and ensembles
  • In addition to teaching courses, the activities of teaching staff include the necessary preparation and follow-up activities, event and examination activities, research and administrative activities associated with teaching, participation in committees and the supervision and assessment of final theses.
