Senior Scientist (w/m/d) with a doctorate for Music Education
(Tenure track position according to § 26 f of the Austrian Universities collective contract)
The University of Music and Performing Arts Graz – the KUG – with around 2,300 students at its campuses in Graz and Oberschützen, is an international university offering a wide range of courses in music and the performing arts. Located in the heart of Europe, we build on the cultural heritage of our region and at the same time explore and contribute to current trends in the contemporary arts. We engage with international developments in the arts, pedagogy and research, and explore the significance of art and culture in society. Teachers and students work cooperatively in this process. Your duties
• independent research activities with the aim of habilitation
• independent teaching of courses and holding of examinations
• collaboration in research and teaching tasks as well as examinations
• external and internal representation and development of the subject area and the institute, in particular in various committees of the joint secondary school teacher training programme in the Entwicklungsverbund Süd-Ost (EVSO)
• participation in organisational, administrative and evaluation duties, in particular in the area of activity of the curriculum committee of the teacher training programme at KUG
• supervision of students, including supervision of theses (BEd, MEd, also of PhD and Dr. art. when the venia docendi is held)
• planning and organisation of scientific symposia and conferences
• intensive networking in (regional) school pedagogical practice as well as in national and international expert bodies (e.g. conference of subject didacticians, MFÖ, AMPF, EAS)
• Conception and realisation of third mission activities for various target groups
Your profile
• completion of a subject-related diploma or master's and doctoral degree programme
• recognisable research profile and realisable concept of the academic activities planned in the context of the position in music education (secondary school teacher accreditation)
• extensive publication activity in national and international journals in the field of music education
• pedagogical and didactic aptitude for excellent university teaching (e.g. elearning competence) and relevant teaching experience in the tertiary sector
• experience in the conception and implementation of research projects and in the acquisition of third-party funding
• very good command of English
• commitment to working in teams, in the scientific community and in the further development of the Institute's profile in the field of music education (secondary school teacher accreditation)
• sensitivity in dealing with gender, diversity and sustainability
Experience in the field of Science Communication (Science Outreach) is welcome.
If German is not the native language, it is assumed that there is the willingness to learn German with the aim of reaching at least level C1 within a fixed period of time.
Contract: limited to six years (with the option for a consensual extension)
Level of employment: Full-time, employment extent 100 %
Salary: The minimum monthly gross salary is currently € 4,932.90 (14x per year) and may be increased on the basis of the collective agreement regulations by considering job-specific previous experience.
After concluding a qualification agreement, you will be placed in the A2 scheme for assistant professors with a minimum gross salary of € 5,808.20 (14x per year) as defined in the collective agreement. After achieving the agreed objectives, an employment contract for an indefinite period will be offered. The employee will then hold the title "Associate Professor".
