The University of Music and Performing Arts Graz – Institute of Jazz Research – is offering a position beginning with the 1st December 2024 for a
University Assistant for Jazz and Popular Music Research
Your duties
• independent research activities with the aim of a doctorate (PhD) at the Scientific Doctoral School of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz
• independent teaching of courses and holding exams
• participation is essential in research projects and teaching duties in the organisational unit
• participation in examinations
• participation in organisational, administrative and evaluation duties
• supervision of students
Your profile
• completion of a diploma or master’s degree in an appropriate professional study area
• familiarity with interdisciplinary analysis of jazz or popular music
• concise and feasible concept for the dissertation
• very good knowledge of English
• very good knowledge of German desirable
• willingness to work in teams and to engage in the scientific community
• sensitivity in dealing with gender and diversity
• experience in publishing and editing is desirable
• experience in the field of science communication (public outreach) is welcome
If German is not the first language, proof of knowledge of German at level C1 (Common European Reference Framework for Languages) or, alternatively, proof of comparable knowledge of English must be provided as a prerequisite for admission to the PhD programme.
Independently of fulfilling the language requirements for admission to the PhD programme, the candidate will need to deliver proof of German language knowledge at the level of B2 or higher at the latest two years after starting work (if this does not already exist at the beginning of employment).
Contract: Temporary position limited to four years. The employment contract needs to include the completion of an academic doctoral degree in the field of jazz and popular music research.
Level of employment: Part-time, employment extent of 75 % of full-employment
Salary: Collective agreement minimum monthly gross salary currently € 2,684.10 (14 x annually); a higher salary may be negotiated.
