University Assistant for Sonic Interaction Design
The University of Music and Performing Arts Graz – the KUG – with around 2,300 students at its campuses in Graz and Oberschützen, is an international university offering a wide range of courses in music and the performing arts. The Institute of Electronic Music and Acoustics (IEM) at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz was founded in 1965 and is considered Austria's leading research institution in the field of audio technology. The IEM sees itself as an interface between science and art, between new technologies and musical practice. Scientific research and development covers the fields of acoustics as well as theoretical work and practical implementation of tasks in sound research, computer music and media art as well as sonification. Artistic research at the IEM focuses on the further development of artistic forms of expression and aesthetic issues. The institute runs the artistic study program Computer Music and Sound Art as well as the interdisciplinary education of the study program Electrical Engineering and Audio Engineering together with the Graz University of Technology and the master study program Sound Design together with the FH Joanneum.
Your duties
- independent teaching of courses and holding exams
- independent research activities in the field of sonic interaction design and sonification,specifically by conducting experiments
- supervision of students
- participation is essential in research projects and teaching duties in the organisational unit
- participation in examinations
- participation in organisational, administrative and evaluation duties
Your profile
- completion of a diploma or master’s degree in an appropriate professional study area
- experience with sonic interaction design and/ or sonification
- good knowledge of acoustics and psychoacoustics, especially evaluation methods
- very good knowledge in digital signal processing
- enjoyment of scientific and design work
- your background contributes to the diversity of our team
- sensitivity in dealing with gender and diversity
Experience in the field of Science Communication (Science Outreach) is welcome.
Contract: Temporary position limited to 4 years. The employment contract needs to include the completion of an academic doctoral degree in the field of Audio Engineering and Acoustics/ Sonic Interaction Design.
Level of employment: Part-time, employment extent of 75 % of full-employment
Pay: Collective agreement minimum monthly gross salary currently € 2,457.98 (14 x annually); a highersalary may be negotiated.
