General Information

Carinthia's capital Klagenfurt is home to Austria's youngest music university to date. The Gustav Mahler Private University of Music, however, is based on a one-hundred-year musical-artistic training tradition at the highest quality level. Until the accreditation in May 2019, the Carinthian State Conservatory fulfilled the task of professionally qualifying and promoting talented young people as part of its non-academic study programmes.

The Gustav Mahler Private University of Music offers two fields of study: a bachelor's or master's degree in the course "Instrumental and Vocal Education" and a bachelor's or master's degree in the course "Musical Performance Art". The bachelor's studies comprise 8 semesters each, the master's studies 4 semester minimum duration. It also offers short study courses, further training and talent support. In cooperation with the Carinthian Pedagogical University, a study programme of music education and instrumental music education is offered.

In the field of teaching, science and research, the Gustav Mahler Private University of Music pursues two approaches: a scientific approach ("Research on Art") and an artistic approach marked by the terms "Artistic Research" or "Interpretation and Development of the Arts" as research "through art and in art".

Inter-regionality and internationality are essential components of the self-understanding of the Gustav Mahler Private University of Music. The university structure enables teachers and, above all, students, to achieve a significantly higher level of mobility and exchange of experience across borders.
