General Information

The Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali "Conservatorio Guido Cantelli" of Novara obtained autonomy from the Ministry in 1996, establishing itself, also in its naming, as an active and lively reality in the surrounding area.

The large catchment area, due to its strategic geographical position between Turin and Milan, and the ease with which the headquarters can be reached by private or public transport (train or plane, considering the proximity to Milan Airport Malpensa) have allowed the institution to become a point of reference for teaching, research and production within Higher Artistic and Musical Education.

Thanks to the intimate dimension of the Conservatory, students can establish a closer relationship with the teachers and with the Institution. The possibility of creating opportunities for fruitful musical interaction means that many teachers, with an undoubted national and international career, invest educationally and musically on the I.S.S.M. Cantelli.

A pleasant and sustainable didactic-academic environment, together with the presence of very valid musicians in the teaching staff, has attracted students from all over Italy, Europe and the world: just walk through the courtyard of the "Gallarini" College, to perceive the international scope of the students who attend it.

Currently, in addition to the preparatory courses, there are the following paths for the achievement of the First Level Academic Diploma and the Second Level Academic Diploma:

The ISSM “Guido Cantelli” Conservatory stands out for its intense artistic production and for the originality of its projects, also offering its members opportunities for a first debut or a start towards a profitable career.

The ensembles, the ensembles, the vocal and instrumental groups and in particular the concert appointments during the year are the strong points of the artistic production.

The presence of a large symphonic orchestra, made up only of students, which ranges across the entire symphonic repertoire, allows the best students to debut as soloists in constant collaboration with the “C. Coccia”, foundation of tradition of the city.

The youth choir, in its complete or chamber formation, is fundamental in concerts in the area.

The contemporary music ensemble "C@n't tell it" performs and makes known the repertoire of classical music of the 19th and 20th centuries, also giving the students of the composition classes the opportunity to see their own pieces performed.

The artistic production focuses on numerous main events articulated throughout the entire academic year:

The Cantelli Concerts, a now historic appointment that the Conservatory offers to the city: every Saturday the best students, after passing an internal audition, have the opportunity to present themselves to a large and loyal audience as a baptism for their future career.

Festival Winds, another now fundamental piece: the whole musical world knows Novara for the month of internships, seminars, workshops, exhibitions, courses and concerts around the world of wind instruments. World-renowned soloists, first parts of prestigious orchestras bring their quality, raising the educational and artistic level of our institution.

The World of the Guitar, an event that offers a vast overview of guitar production, from the Baroque to the contemporary repertoire, divided into masterclasses and concerts.

The week of Baroque music which involves teachers and students of the Baroque department in a supply chain laboratory which has the aim of creating original execution projects around early music.

Rossini Lab, a novelty for our institution. A path of in-depth study and production on the works of Gioachino Rossini, with particular reference to one-act farces, which culminates with the debut in the season of the Teatro “C. Coccia” of Novara
