General Information
The Conservatory's history unfolds from the opening of a music and choreography college in 1944 to its status as a national university today. Eighty years of life reflect an entire era — not only the formation of professional music education, but the history of the whole country: from a republic within the USSR to a sovereign state.
The foundations of musical pedagogy and performance were laid by representatives of the creative intelligentsia from Moscow and St. Petersburg, who stood at the origins of Kazakhstan's academic musical culture — one that organically absorbed European, Russian, and Kazakh traditions. Within the conservatory's walls, a national school of composition also took shape: Akhmet Zhubanov, Yevgeny Brusilovsky, Mukan Tulebayev, Sydyk Mukhamedzhanov, Kuddus Kuzhamyarov, Gaziza Zhubanova, and Erkegali Rakhmadiyev became the creators of the first Kazakh operas, symphonies, and chamber works that entered the golden treasury of Kazakh musical culture.
Throughout different periods, the conservatory's leading faculty included outstanding musicians who proudly represented our country to the world: the "golden trumpet" Yuri Klushkin, renowned baritone Yermek Serkebayev, the "Kazakh nightingale" Bibigul Tulegenova, distinguished choirmaster Bazargali Zhamanbayev, legendary dombra virtuoso Karshyga Akhmedyarov, eminent pianist Zhaniya Aubakirova, and virtuoso violinist Gaukhar Murzabekova, among many others — not only celebrated performers but caring mentors as well.
In 2019 Kurmangazy Conservatory passed the international accreditation of the agency Music Quality Enhancement - Musique (Brussels, Belgium) on the programs of Bachelor Degree in 2017, Master's and Doctoral Programs in 2019.

For many years the Conservatory has been consistently leading in the ranking of the premier universities of Kazakhstan by the Independent Accreditation and Ratings Agency and is the owner of the Gold Star of Quality according to the results of the International Rating "IAAR Eurasian University Ranking (IAAR EUR)".
In addition to our educational and creative achievements, the Conservatory actively develops its research and publication activities. We are proud to publish the scientific journal “SARYN”, which serves as a platform for sharing research findings in the field of musicology, performing arts, and art management, promoting international academic dialogue and collaboration among scholars and practitioners in the arts.
