The ARTEMIS AEC Goes Green Working Group Coordinator Ashkhen Fixova presented the situation regarding the sustainable transition in the higher music education sector, focusing on the efforts of the AEC Goes Green WG.

She highlighted the most noteworthy green initiatives undertaken by the WG, the efforts towards exploring the link between the arts and sustainability, as well as the report recently published on the environmentally friendly needs and practices in Higher Music Education Institutions (HMEIs). Fixova also previewed the upcoming Recommendations for Green Transition in Higher Music Education, which will be released in November, explaining their rationale, focus, content, and significance for the sector.

Following Fixova’s presentation, Francesco Spina, the Sustainability Officer of the Conservatoire of Liège, presented the case of his institution’s sustainable transition. Spina also highlighted the role of cooperation between institutions and associations representing their interests, like the AEC.

The ENCATC Congress, entitled “Interdisciplinary Approaches for Sustainable Futures,” was held from September 18 to 20, 2024, in Lecce, Italy. It brought together over 200 participants from 35 countries, including academics, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners, to discuss sustainability through a multi-dimensional lens—environmental, economic, and social.

The presentation of the AEC Goes Green Working Group contributed significantly to discussions on how cultural networks and associations are developing policies towards the Green shift, encompassing governance, management, teaching, and more, as well as addressing the main challenges of this transition.
