The AEC-SMS task force on early childhood music education (ECME), coordinated by the European Music School Union, recently held its second meeting on 2 – 4 October. The Working Group met in Helsinki, Finland, to continue its work on the guidebook intended to raise awareness and encourage future plans for early childhood music education within music schools. A previous member of the Working Group, Barbara Metzger, has been succeeded by Michael Dartsch, who attended his first ECME meeting in Helsinki.
The main objectives of the meeting focussed on the roadmap for upcoming years and the contents of the guidebook. The meeting was complemented by a visit to early childhood music education classes to gain an impression of the renowned Finnish music pedagogy and to exchange ideas with the teachers.
