From 26 to 28 March 2026, the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (Austria) will host the conference “Can Everyone Improvise?”, providing a platform for researchers and practitioners to explore how musical improvisation can foster creativity and communication in educational settings.

The conference originates from the desire to present the outcomes of Everyone Can Improvise! (ECI), an Erasmus+ project uniting the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media, the University of Music Lübeck, and the University of Zagreb. Together, these institutions are developing and implementing innovative approaches to support musical improvisation across diverse educational environments.

By bringing together varied perspectives, the conference aims to inspire fresh ideas and advance the field. Educators and researchers are warmly invited to contribute on the theme of musical improvisation in educational contexts. Submissions are welcome on topics such as:

  • Empirical research and theoretical perspectives on musical improvisation in pedagogical and/or inclusive contexts.
  • Presentations of innovative, practical, or research-based projects.

Possible Contribution Formats:

  • Presentation (20 minutes).
  • Forum discussion involving multiple individuals or institutions on a shared topic (90 minutes).
  • Poster presentation (including results from Master’s theses).

For presentations or poster submissions: please submit a synopsis of no more than 4,000 characters, including spaces and references.
