On 2 and 3 October 2024, the conference CEMAN 2024: Beyond the Borders took place at the Conservatory “Giuseppe Tartini” in Trieste.

Riccardo Ceni participated in it as an AEC Council member, together with representatives of the MUR – Italian Ministry of University and Research and of the Conservatory of Trieste, the University of Arts, Faculty of Music in Tirana, the Academy of Music, Theater and Fine Arts in Chisinau, the Ukrainian National Academy of Music “Tchaikovsky” in Kyiv, the Music Academy of the University of Montenegro in Cetinje, the MUZA – Muzička Akademija Zagreb, SISSA (Higher International School for Advanced Studies) in Trieste, CNAM (National Council for Higher Education in Arts and Music), Consortium GARR and CEI – Central European Initiative.

It was an important opportunity to take stock of a project that has existed for years and combines training, internationalisation and performance, in the framework of the CEMAN-Central European Music Academies Network, established under the initiative of the Conservatory of Trieste in cooperation with the CEI and the MUR.

The CEMAN Orchestra was created with the aim of promoting talented young musicians from the Central European Regions, giving them the opportunity to perform in many European Countries. It made its debut in 2018 in Zagreb, conducted by the Croatian conductor Jasenka Ostojić and collaborated with many talented soloists, such as Eleonora Hil, Giada Visentin, Momchil Pandev, Beatrice Fitocarev, Ion Mosneaga, Adelajd Zhuri, Laura Llozi, and renowned conductors like Deyan Pavlov, Denis Ceausov, Olsi Qinami and Romolo Gessi, who is currently the Music Director, performing concerts in Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary, Italy, Slovakia and Czech Republic.

The CEMAN Orchestra Project runs thanks to the effort and help of the Academies of Banja Luka, Beograd, Bologna, Bratislava, Bucarest, Budapest, Cetinje, Chisinău, Kyiv, Ljubljiana, Novi Sad, Sarajevo, Sofia, Tirana, Trieste, Udine, and Zagreb, providing an excellent example of international collaboration, training and inclusion in an area that until a few years ago was the scene of a centuries-old conflict.
