Classical:NEXT is a global networking and exchange hub for classical and art music addressing all professionals – artists, managers, presenters, orchestras, labels, educators, press, media, publishers and more. After a two-year COVID break; Classical:NEXT will finally gather again for a conference, this time in Hannover, Germany. As at previous meetings, the event will start with a Classical:NEXT Higher Music Education Pre-Conference to make representatives from the professional field and from the Higher Music Education sector meet and talk to each other about intersections and opportunities.

The starting point of the session is the conviction that preparing students with the artistic skills and the entrepreneurial mindset needed for successful careers in the music sector requires leaders to challenge the status quo, rethink artistic excellence, quality and the definition of success, and to broaden cultural and societal diversity to overcome systemic power relations.

Through the deployment of a Design Thinking framework, Abra Bush (USA) and Stefan Gies will facilitate dialogue, ideation and discussion to identify possible solutions to these and other challenges while exploring intersections and opportunities within the classical music ecosphere.

The session will take place at the Classical:NEXT Higher Music Education Pre-Conference on Tuesday 17 May from 09:30 to 11:30 in Hannover / Germany.
