European University Alliance IN.TUNE is starting up!
On 3rd July 2023, the European Commission published the selection results of the 4th Erasmus+ call for European Universities’ alliances. The application for IN.TUNE – Innovative Universities in Music & Arts in Europe has been selected by the EU among seven new alliances out of 39 applications. IN.TUNE will join 44 existing alliances in the context of the European University initiative of the EU as the only alliance in the field of music.
The IN.TUNE partners are the University of the Arts The Hague – Royal Conservatoire (applicant institution), Norwegian Academy of Music Oslo, Conservatoire de Paris, University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya Barcelona, Uniarts Helsinki – Sibelius Academy, National University for Music Bucharest and University of Arts Belgrade. The institutions forming IN.TUNE have committed to the development of a joint long-term strategy with a strong artistic dimension for deep cooperation in high-quality education, research, innovation and service to society.
The design of the cooperation within IN.TUNE is based on the creation of frameworks, methodologies and policies, each containing specific activities and deliverables, and developed to support long-term sustainability. The activities are set up around four main thematic areas: Joint Education Provision & Mobility, Research & Innovation, Societal Engagement and Alliance Governance & Cooperation. These areas will be addressed in eight work packages, with each institution being a lead partner for one work package but also collaborating in all others, so that expertise, commitment and workload are shared.
The main outcomes will be frameworks for mobility, for cooperation in research and innovation, and joint policies for societal engagement. The involvement of various institutional stakeholders is guaranteed through a wide range of activities and a transparent governance structure involving students, academics, and management and support staff. A group of 19 associate partners, among them, the AEC, will assist IN.TUNE with expertise in the area of research and societal engagement, and provide platforms for the wide dissemination of results.
IN.TUNE will be formally launched during the AEC Congress 2023 at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague. Since the European Universities Alliances are considered by the European Commission as pioneers to explore unknown galaxies in terms of transnational institutional cooperation, the AEC membership is looking forward to hearing more about the exciting IN.TUNE expeditions ahead.
