The mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna is looking for musicians (from the 5th semester onward) and recent graduates (up to three years after graduation, max. 33 years old) who are interested in interdisciplinary projects and socially engaged artistic work.
The isaCommunity is part of mdw’s International Summer Academy, running alongside numerous other masterclasses. Through hands-on workshops, participants will develop innovative concert formats, which will be performed during the 2025/26 season at the Wiener Konzerthaus and TONALi in Hamburg. In 2026, the focus will shift toward participatory projects.
In addition to musicians with a socially engaged focus, we especially encourage applications from artists with a strong artistic profile, as we aim to equip them for the evolving demands of the cultural sector.
When?: 21 – 27 July 2025.

Fee: 430€ (grants up to 230€ available)
Program:
- Practical workshops: Turn your ideas into reality!
- Rehearsals: Bring your repertoire and integrate it into a collaboratively developed concert format.
- Reflection: What does musical community work mean to you, and what can we achieve with it?
- Concert design brainstorm: Create new concert concepts.
- Panels and field research: We are developing a panel discussion with other students as our target group, and we will also immerse ourselves in Vienna to work directly with the people.
