From November 24th to 27th, 2024, the MUSENSE project (MUSic higher EducatioN meetS the cyber dimension), supported by Erasmus+ KA220 HED, hosted its final Conference in Palermo. This event marked the conclusion of an innovative initiative aimed at integrating digital technologies and cyber dimensions into performance practices and higher music education.
The conference opened with remarks by the Director of Conservatorio “A. Scarlatti” of Palermo and a presentation by Project Manager Raffaele Longo, outlining the project’s goals and key achievements.
Over two days, project partners highlighted significant outcomes, including advancements in cyber and distance performance practices, the establishment of an online shared repository, and the development of course modules and training guidelines to enhance digital competencies in music education.
The presentations underscored the collaborative efforts of institutions such as the Ionian University, Yasar University, and Lund University, and the hosting institution “A. Scarlatti” in Palermo, showcasing the project’s interdisciplinary focus.
The second day featured engaging sessions that explored future possibilities for music education in the digital age. Highlights included digitisation scenarios for higher music education, presented in a thought-provoking workshop by Sandrine Desmurs of the AEC ARTEMIS Digitisation Working Group, and a session on sustainable practices in digital performance, led by Sarah Wilén from Lund University. These sessions fostered meaningful discussions on the practical and theoretical implications of digital transformation within the arts.
In addition to academic exchange, the conference celebrated Palermo’s rich cultural heritage, offering attendees an opportunity to experience its artistic and historical heritage. This fusion of intellectual dialogue and cultural exploration exemplified MUSENSE’s holistic vision for education and collaboration.
