In recent years, interest in traditional, folk and global music has grown significantly, both in the music industry, among audiences and in higher music education. Following the wishes of many members and the growing diversity of its network, the AEC wants to increase its strategic focus on this part of music life.
This is why in August, AEC launched a call for members for a new Working Group: the AEC Traditional, Folk, and Global Music Working Group (TFG WG). Members of this group will support the AEC and its community by advancing teaching methods, promoting knowledge creation and dissemination, and serving as ambassadors for the AEC in this field.
We are thrilled that we can now announce the members who were selected among a large number of very qualified applicants:
Joshua Dickson
Working Group Chair (Royal Conservatory of Scotland)
Althea SullyCole
Working Group Member (McGill University – Schulich School of Music, Montreal, Canada)
Atlas Ahmadyian
Working Group Member (Conservatorio di Musica “Giuseppe Verdi”, Milan, Italy – Student)
Anothai Nitibhon
Working Group Member (Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music, Bangkok, Thailand, Council Representative)
Kelly Veinberg

Laura Poggio

The Working Group will be coordinated by Beatriz Laborda (AEC Events Coordinator). She can be reached at beatrizlaborda@aec-music.eu.
“I am overwhelmed by the great interest in joining the new Trad-Folk-Global Working Group and helping to promote the field within Higher Music Education. With Joshua Dickson as WG chairman and the highly qualified team of WG members, I am convinced that the AEC members will gain insight, inspiration and new ideas relevant to the field, including how to equip the students with the necessary skills to carry on this particular area of the musical legacy.
– Finn Schumacker, AEC Executive Director
“The AEC’s creation of a Working Group dedicated to Traditional, Folk, and Global Music is the result of the collective effort of many over a number of years, and I am thrilled to be involved in this exciting new focus within the AEC network. As traditional and folk music continues to evolve and thrive in today’s music industry and society, so its role in conservatoire settings deserves to be promoted, and its role in teaching, learning and artistic research strengthened and championed. I look forward very much to working with colleagues from across Europe and beyond toward these goals.”
– Joshua Dikson, WG Chair
