The Carmen Mateu Young Artist European Award, Opera and Dance, convened by the Castell de Peralada Private Foundation, was created in memory of Carmen Mateu. It aims to build careers of young artists and promotes disciplines of Opera and Dance in the European sphere.
The second edition of The Carmen Mateu Young Artist European Award, Opera and Dance is focused on the category of Opera, specifically on the discipline of composer. Entries may be submitted until 28 February 2021. The winner of the second edition will be announced in spring 2021.
Alongside 30,000 euros for a commission to compose a pocket opera, the winner will have an option of mentoring with the composer Alberto García Demestres and Medal of Honour of the Festival Castell de Peralada. The premiere of the new composition will take place at the Festival Castell de Peralada and will be co-produced by the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and the Teatro Real in Madrid, where it will also be performed later.
