On 22-26 March 2021, the Arne Nordheim Centre for Artistic Research at the Norwegian Academy of Music – NordART organised the first edition of the RAPP Lab series, which in the coming three years will explore how the reflective methodologies of artistic research can empower musicians to respond creatively to the economic-cultural environment with which they are confronted. This first lab that just took place in Oslo aimed at testing, discussing, investigating a model of critical reflection by breaking down the complex phenomenon of critical reflection into smaller parts. Thanks to the online format, three formal presentations were open for public view, while all other activities were only open to representatives of the project partner institutions, who during the lab have been encouraged to set up institutional research clusters which could continue beyond the Lab.

This was just the first of a series of labs which will be organized in the framework of the Reflection-based Artistic Professional Practice (RAPP Lab) Project, funded by Erasmus+.  The Labs will make advanced music students try out new learning & teaching formats informed by artistic research. Findings from the Labs will be used to generate and refine a structured concept for the implementation of artistic research paradigms within the learning & teaching programmes of music academies.
