In 2026, SIMM will organise two research seminars:
7–9 September 2026
SIMM has been invited to Luxembourg by the Institute of Musicology and Arts (Department of Education and Social Work, University of Luxembourg) to host the 12th SIMM Research Seminar. This second edition of the three-day seminar will once again bring together socially engaged practice-researchers from a range of artistic disciplines.

11–13 November 2026
For the 13th SIMM Research Seminar, SIMM has been invited to Ghent by Chair Jonet (Ghent University). Following the first seminar on this theme held in 2021 in Porto at CIPEM/INET-md (Centro de Investigação em Psicologia da Música e Educação Musical), this edition will focus on research on music programmes in detention centres and prisons.

Academic Journals
In 2026, SIMM is also co-editing two special issues of academic journals:
- Musica e Storia (Italian Journal)
In collaboration with SIMM, Musica e Storia is preparing a special issue on historical research on music as resistance and as oppression. The issue is co-edited by Lukas Pairon (SIMM Founder and Managing Director) and Janie Cole (University of Connecticut).

In collaboration with SIMM, the International Journal of Music Mediation (Issue 5) is preparing a special issue on participatory opera and music theatre.
