On 30th of May 2018, the European Commission proposed the next long-term EU budget for the 2021-2027 period. Overall, €609 million from the new budget will be allocated to promoting Europe's cultural and creative sectors.

The AEC welcomes the proposal published by the European Commission on 30 May 2018 to increase the share of expenditure on culture under the Creative Europe program 2021-2027; supporting key political objectives to establish the European Education Area by 2025 and to improve mobility of European students. Nevertheless, we also want to take this opportunity to point out there is much need to ensure that at least 1% of the EU's total budget is to be assigned to arts and culture in the long term. We believe that this can strongly help achieve the EU's objectives of investing in people and confirm that Europe is on the people’s side with sustainable effectiveness.

The Creative Europe programme helps young people to face social and economic challenges and competitors of Europe’s cultural and creative sectors; with the goal to strengthen and promote social inclusion, cultural and linguistic diversity, cultural heritage and creativity. It will continue as a self-standing programme for culture after 2020, proposing to increase funding of up to 1.85 billion euros.
