The survey about classical musicians’ motivation to practice during the COVID-19 pandemic will end on 30 June. The study seeks to understand how musicians coped during the pandemic and how their professional and personal lives were impacted across this period.
The focus is especially on performing musicians’ motivation to practice as the numbers of concerts dramatically decreased due to cancellations. The survey’s results will be helpful to know how musicians’ practice routines changed across the stages of the pandemic, understanding that there are diverse factors affecting such motivation.
With enough responses, the results from this research will be used to inform higher music education pedagogy, curriculum development, and policy work in terms of preparedness of professional musicians for future crises, and better assess and support the motivation of aspiring professional students. These findings will be shared with the AEC Community.
It takes about 15-20 minutes to answer the complete survey. For more information, please contact Dr. Guadalupe López-Íñiguez (Sibelius Academy) and Prof. Gary McPherson (Melbourne Conservatorium of Music).
