The project is about the use of low latency technologies and infrastructures (such as the LoLa network) to enable enhanced long-distance learning and teaching activities and collaborations between Higher Music Education Institutions. Partners will develop a set of distance learning new modules, while at the same time promoting enhancement and deployment of new features in LoLa and other specialised tools for music education, both in strict collaboration with students and teachers. This will accelerate the development of a deeper transnational collaboration among institutions and enhance the quality of international mobilities of students and teachers, supplementing the physical mobility with a continuous virtual one.
The project is led by the Consortium GARR, the Italian national computer network for universities and research. The main objective of GARR is to design and manage a very high-performance network infrastructure that delivers advanced services to the academic and scientific community.
GARR will provide the technical infrastructure to enable the Higher Music Education Institutions involved in the project (Conservatorio di Musica “Giuseppe Tartini” in Trieste; Academy of Music of the University of Ljubljana and University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna) to engage in distance learning and teaching activities. The AEC will coordinate the communication and dissemination activities and will perform an important role in the evaluation, monitoring and enhancement of the outputs of the project through in-depth interviews with participants and, when desirable, establishing interactions with the AEC-SMS Learning & Teaching and Digitisation Working Groups to investigate the educational benefits and added value in the use of distance learning technologies.
The project has been presented at the AEC Congress and General Assembly in Graz in a joint session with the INTERMUSIC Project. The Kick Off Meeting of the SWING took place on 26-27 November at the Conservatorio di Musica Giuseppe Tartini in Trieste.
