This symposium focuses on the future of higher popular music education and it will take place on 4th June 2024 at the Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam, Campus Woudestein, Langeveld 1.14. The event features a presentation by Dr. Tom Parkinson (University of Kent) and a panel discussion.
Program
From the 1990s onward, popular music became increasingly common in higher music institutes across Europe. Various popular music programs were also opened in Dutch conservatoires. With a group of scientists, educators, musicians and directors who specialise in popular music we will discuss the future of higher popular music education. We will address the different ideas about what popular music means in the context of higher music education, the current position of popular music programs within the institute and the added value of popular music programs for a successful career.
