Chair of Council

Job offer

The Royal College of Music is a world leading performing arts institution. Its internationally renowned faculty and alumni include many of the most influential and celebrated composers and performers in music history, with graduates continuing to excel across the global music and wider creative sectors. With a campus at the heart of London’s South Kensington, the College is a centre of innovation and research, home to exceptional collections and award winning performance science.

The Council is looking to appoint a Chair in 2026 to succeed Lord Black of Brentwood in Summer 2027. With an ambitious six year strategy now in development, beginning in August 2027 and culminating in the RCM’s 150th anniversary, this is an exciting time for the College.

The Chair will have significant experience of governance in public or corporate life, bring a passion for music, and be able to champion the transformative opportunities higher education can bring to develop young performers and composers. This is an incomparable Chair role in the field of music education, and we welcome expressions of interest from the widest possible field of candidates. The RCM is a welcoming institution that encourages and values diversity.
