„Sonic Imaginaries of Africa in German Film (1930–2000)“
The University of Music and Performing Arts Graz – the KUG – with around 2,300 students at its campuses in Graz and Oberschützen, is an international university offering a wide range of courses in music and the performing arts. Your duties
• project assistance within the interdisciplinary project “Sonic Imaginaries of Africa in German Film (1930-2000)”, (FWF/Elise Richter, RIC 4006324)
• film analysis and transcription
• archive research
• conceptual, editorial and organizational support for mainly English-language publications (peer-reviewed and open access), international conferences and media-cultural activities
• participation in organisational, research and administrative as well as evaluation duties
Your profile
• completion of a diploma or master’s degree in an appropriate professional study area
(music, film and media studies or related subjects) eligible for the application
• very good film and media studies skills
• very good skills in film analysis and transcription, knowledge in the analysis of film music and theoretical skills in the field of postcolonial studies are desirable
• very good command of the German language (German-language film repertoire), preferably also of English
• interdisciplinary interests in one of the following areas: colonial heritage of cinema, cinema and race, colonialism as culture, alterity studies, imagology, conceptualization/mediatization of regionality and 'Heimat'
• independent PhD project in the field of music, film and media studies or related subjects is optional
• Sensitivity in dealing with gender, diversity and sustainability
Experience in the field of Science Communication (Science Outreach) is welcome.
Contract: limited until 30.04.2027 (with the option for a extension for a further year, if required), the working contract has to be approved by the FWF.
Level of employment: employment extent of 40 % of full-employment
Salary: Collective agreement minimum monthly gross salary currently € 1,431.52 (14 x annually).
