The Conservatoire du Nord
A Vital and Diverse Musical, Dramatic, and Choreographic Education
In 2002, the cities of Diekirch and Ettelbruck created an intermunicipal syndicate for the organization and management of a joint musical education institution – the Conservatoire du Nord. Thus, the third music conservatory in the Grand Duchy was born. The CMNord operates on two sites in Diekirch and Ettelbruck and has around 1,500 students and 70 teachers.
It offers a wide range of instrumental, vocal, music theory, dance, and performing arts courses, as well as the following special features:
- An early learning cycle for children aged 4 to 7, which allows them to discover artistic activities through games, physical expression, and vocal work (speech and singing).
- The curriculum of the Choir School (choral singing for children and teenagers), which follows the same progression as an instrumental curriculum, giving children the option to choose voice as their main instrument.
- The "Modern Music" department offers courses in electric guitar, keyboard, and drum set.
- The dance department offers classical dance, jazz dance, and physical expression.
- Courses for baroque instruments such as the recorder, viola da gamba, mandoline, baroque violin, baroque singing and harpsichord; while the "sacred music" department includes disciplines like organ, liturgical organ, harmonization, and improvisation.
- The department of collective practices, including beginner-level ensembles but also the Symphony Orchestra, the Percussion Ensemble, Combos, the Vocal Ensemble, and even an opera class, not to mention numerous chamber music groups.
- An "Adults" cycle offering a curriculum that takes into account, on one hand, the maturity of the adult compared to that of the child, and on the other, the technical difficulties that can arise with age.
- Student and teacher concerts that contribute to the pleasure and energy emanating from art.
