General Information
The École Normale de Musique de Paris (ENMP) is one of the very few higher conservatories in Europe that operates as a fully private institution. Founded in 1919 by the renowned pianist and pedagogue Alfred Cortot, the ENMP is located at 114 bis Boulevard Malesherbes, in a townhouse that was donated to the institution shortly after its creation. It is adjacent to the Salle Cortot, a prestigious Parisian venue dedicated to chamber music, which is also part of its heritage.
Each year, nearly 600 students, including around 70% from abroad and representing over 50 different countries, are selected to pursue advanced training in one of the school’s five main areas: instrumental studies, chamber music, vocal studies, conducting, and composition and film scoring.
Drawing on its history, the prestige of its founder, the prominence of its faculty, and the success of its alumni in major international competitions, the ENMP continues to attract some of the most talented students from around the world.
A true ambassador of French culture and language abroad, the institution has, for over a century, been a center for the teaching and practice of the French school of music, whose distinctive characteristics have been preserved and transmitted across generations of musicians.
