General Information

Founded in 2013, Fundaçao MUSIARTE - Conservatório de Música e Arte Dramática is one of Mozambique’s leading private institutions for music and performing arts education. Based in Maputo, it plays a significant role in artistic education, cultural innovation, artistic production, and community engagement, contributing to the development of the country’s cultural and creative sectors.

In 2016, the Ministry of Education and Human Development recognised MUSIARTE’s work and provided facilities within its premises in central Maputo, at a time when specialised conservatory training was still limited in Mozambique. Since then, MUSIARTE has played a pioneering role in the development of vocational music education in the country.

The conservatory attracts students from across Mozambique and increasingly from abroad, benefiting from Maputo’s international connectivity. It offers a close learning environment with personalised artistic guidance and strong interaction between students and teachers, supported by a team of national and international artists and educators.

MUSIARTE provides structured pre-professional training ranging from introductory to advanced pre-academic levels, preparing students for further studies and professional engagement in the cultural sector. It serves as a bridge between basic music education and Higher Music Education, while progressively aligning its programmes with international standards.

The curriculum includes instrumental and vocal studies, music theory and musicianship, composition, conducting, music technology, chamber music, choir, drama, and musical theatre, with strong emphasis on ensemble practice, artistic production, and public performance.

As part of its development towards Higher Music Education, MUSIARTE is strengthening artistic research, advanced performance practice, composition, pedagogy, and didactics, integrating reflective and research-informed artistic training.

Inspired by the African philosophy of Ubuntu, MUSIARTE promotes artistic excellence, creativity, cultural diversity, collaboration, and social responsibility, viewing music as a tool for personal development, intercultural dialogue, and community engagement.

Artistic production is central to its educational model, including concerts, opera excerpts, chamber music, festivals, masterclasses, and interdisciplinary projects. Outreach programmes in schools and communities expand access to music education across Mozambique.

National and international cooperation is a strategic priority. MUSIARTE maintains partnerships with institutions in Mozambique and abroad, with a strong focus on regional and international collaboration. Celebrating a long-standing cooperation and convention with the Conservatorio Agostino Steffani (Italy) and Erasmus+ (2016 to 2026), and partnerships across Southern Africa, strengthening its artistic and academic development, fostering mobility and international exchange.

Through its educational, artistic, and social mission, MUSIARTE aims to nurture future artists, educators, and cultural leaders while contributing to the sustainable development of Mozambique’s cultural landscape and international dialogue in music education.
