General Information
With over 500 students enrolled in its music courses, the Department of Communication and Art of the University of Aveiro is one of the largest institutions in Portugal with music degrees. The Department hosts a community dedicated to musical creation, performance, teaching and research. The Department currently offers four music courses: 1st cycle degree in Music; Master in Music Education; Master in Music; PhD in Music.
Its affiliated research center, the Institute of Ethnomusicology – Center for Studies in Music and Dance (Inet-MD) is a research unit headquartered at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. The University of Aveiro branch includes 45 integrated researchers and 84 PhD students, funded by research projects. Embedded within an international environment, Inet-MD fosters a culture of excellence in advanced arts training, transdisciplinary research, performance and creation, artistic research, and awareness of the social responsibility of researchers and artists.
