AEC is delighted to announce the key speakers for the Annual Congress 2018!

Irish journalist David Davin-Power was a Political Correspondent with RTÉ and Current Affairs. He was one of the first presenters of Morning Ireland.  In 1984, he helped launch the Morning Ireland radio programme and later ran the newsroom at Century Radio, a commercial radio station before returning to RTÉ as Northern Editor. David will moderate the panel discussion on Friday’s Plenary Session II of the Congress.

Herwig Hösele is the former President of the Austrian Federal Council and Secretary General of the Austrian Future Fund. He is a Member of the University Council of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz since 2018 and has made numerous publications on contemporary and political topics.

Former Member of the European Parliament for London East, Carole Tongue, is currently the President of the European Coalitions for Diversity of Cultural Expressions (CEDC). From 1989 to 1991, she was the Deputy Leader of the European Parliament Labour Party and has been working in public affairs, advising both public/private sectors and in particular trade unions/rights holders in the creative industries

Emily Achieng’ Akuno was trained as a performer-educator in Kenya, USA and UK. She is Professor of music at the Technical University of Kenya in Nairobi, Kenya while serving as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs) at the Co-operative University of Kenya.  Emily is past Treasurer and current President of the Internal Music Council, past board member and chair of the Music in Schools and Teacher Education Commission (MISTEC), and currently President-Elect of the International Society for Music Education (ISME).  Her research and publications focus on cultural relevance and its implications for music education, and music making in enhancing children’s literacy skill development.

Maria Hansen is the Executive Director at ELIA – The European League of Institutes of the Arts based in Amsterdam. Maria has extensive experience in leadership positions in the cultural field in the Netherlands and internationally. She is also a Member of the Executive Committee of the Board of ISPA (International Society of the Performing Arts).
