Erasmus programmes for student and teacher mobility are essential to European Higher Music Education Institutions (HMEI). Particularly among music students, the opportunity to study abroad as an exchange student is highly popular, especially when music education is beyond verbal teaching or language limitations.

However, it is with much regret to say that the previous Erasmus Intensive Programmes, which supported short-term exchanges through Erasmus funds, were removed in 2013 without an alternative.

Recommendations for the Erasmus+ mobility regulation

Therefore, AEC strongly recommends to extend the Erasmus+ Mobility Regulation from 2020 onwards by:
  • re-establishing Erasmus+ short-term stays, which would address one of the key recommendations made by a study commissioned by the CULT Committee of the European Parliament – to give more room for different types of projects to be supported.
  • to implement an option allowing short-term mobility to be financed involving two or more partners.

Benefits for HMEIs

For HMEIs, facilitating the Erasmus+ application and adiminstration can also create wider and easier accessibility.

Overall, the benefits of Erasmus mobility applies to all art disciplines. Thus, it is important to pay particular attention to different requirements needed for arts students.
