The METRIC Network is pleased to invite proposals for its first public Symposium, taking place on 26–27 February 2027 at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague. The Symposium is organised by the AEC – European Association of Conservatoires in collaboration with the Royal Conservatoire The Hague.
About the Symposium
Following the METRIC Intensive Programme, the Symposium opens the conversation to the wider improvisation community. It will explore how Higher Music Education Institutions can strengthen the place of improvisation in their educational practices, and how they can learn from and inspire one another. The Symposium approaches improvisation as an artistic practice, a pedagogical approach, a subject of research, a means of creation and collaboration, and a way of deepening musicians’ relationship to their instrument. We particularly welcome practices across all musical traditions, genres and styles, including those that remain less established in HMEIs.
