The Diversity, Inclusion & Gender Equality (DIGE) Working Group of the AEC – Empowering Artists as Makers in Society project (ARTEMIS, 2022-2025) is launching a call for AEC member institutions to host an interactive workshop titled ‘Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Higher Music Education: An Invitation for Action’.
The aim of the workshop is to share experiences, identify good practices and collaboratively envision institutional change in relation to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) in Higher Music Education (HME).
RESOURCE PACKAGE
Building on the resource package created by the Working Group, the workshop will provide an opportunity for HME staff and students to discuss how to co-construct and maintain an equitable and inclusive teaching and learning environment and how to promote practices that support previously excluded individuals, minority groups and communities.
These issues tie into the practical approaches as well as the musical content and the artistic vision of the institutions. Moreover, intertwined with these themes there will be a particular focus on dealing with resistance that can emerge when such changes are planned and implemented in the institutions.
WORKSHOP
The workshop will consist of plenary sessions as well as small group discussions in a world café setting, with the ultimate goal of encouraging the participants to take action towards enhancing DEI within their own institutions and communities.
All AEC Active and Associate members from all over Europe and beyond are invited to apply for hosting the workshop at their home institutions in the upcoming years. The workshops will take place during the following time periods:
- Spring 2024 (late May-June)
- Autumn 2024 (late September-October)
- Spring 2025 (late May-June)
APPLICATION
The deadline for receiving applications for hosting the workshop at any of the three time periods indicated above is 30 September 2023 at 12:00 (noon) CET.
Institutions wishing to apply should carefully read the official call below, and fill in the following Google Form. Selected institutions will be contacted by the end of the year.
