The Centre for Research in Artistic Citizenship (CReArC Global) invites researchers and artist-scholars to its first International Symposium, Musics, Communities and Diversities: Global Perspectives on Artistic Citizenship. Building on the network’s recent work, including Music as Agency (Westvall and Akuno, 2024), the symposium will explore the role of artistic practice in civic participation, cultural identity and social change.

Proposals are invited for papers on artistic citizenship, artizenship and socially engaged artistic practice, from any discipline and career stage. Empirical, theoretical and practice-based approaches are all welcome. Accepted papers will be presented in thematic panels of three, each followed by a 30-minute discussion.

Abstracts should be no longer than 300 words, plus references and four to five keywords, and should outline the paper’s focus, context, approach and contribution.

Key dates

  • Submission deadline: 15 November 2026
