The AEC Early Music Online Forum continues its mission to look past traditional horizons with the first “Quodlibet” of 2026. On May 21, we invite students, teachers, and enthusiasts to join a fascinating exploration of Early Music Dissemination and Education in Asia and the Pacific.

Historically Informed Performance is no longer a strictly European affair. From the legacy of 16th-century Jesuit missions to the vibrant modern conservatories of the Pacific Rim, the global landscape of early music is shifting. Organized by the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, this session examines how colonial histories and endemic regional traditions intersect to create a unique, modern global heritage.

Session Highlights:

  • The Philippines & Spanish Influence: David Mesquita (Basel) and Lambert Colson (Geneva) discuss the enduring musical dialogue between Spain and the Philippines.
  • Regional Traditions in Taiwan: Yun Han Su (Taipei National University of the Arts) explores historical performance practice through the lens of late Ming dynasty silk-string pipa traditions.
  • Education Today: Martin Chiang and Shio Oshita (Gleam Ensemble) share insights into the current state of research, performance, and education in Taiwan.
