The project had a significant impact on the students and teaching staff of the partner institutions, as well as on the wider music theory community. This was achieved through the development of a practical, hands-on platform offering valuable resources, the highly successful HarMA seminar, and two intensive training programmes—one for teachers and one for students.
The primary focus of the project was the exchange of practices in music theory education through the use of digital tools. As part of the project, the HarMA HUB, an online platform of educational resources, was developed and launched. It includes:
Glossary
A multilingual glossary of common music theory terms, often illustrated with musical examples (scores and/or audio), designed to support teaching and learning.
Bibliography
An online bibliography of textbooks, practice materials, journal articles, etc., used for teaching various music theory subjects at HMEIs in Europe. This innovative tool is created by the users themselves, teachers and students, who could submit specific items used in their institutions, see more here.
HarMAnalysis
HarMAnalysis Repository collection of Analytical Case Studies on musical works, compositional techniques, and style elements. The papers are intended for sharing with music analysis professors in their teaching practice, for use by their students, and for contributing to research in the music theory field.
HarMArchive: Pedagogically Inspired Music Theories
The HarMArchive for Pedagogically Inspired Music Theories seeks to bridge the gap between music theory as research and as pedagogy. The goal of HarMArchive is to bridge this gap by promoting original approaches to music theory that prioritise pedagogical applicability, or pedagogical applications of existing research that make complex theories more accessible.
AEC led the communication and dissemination strategy for HarMA HUB. The AEC dissemination strategy of HarMA HUB was carefully structured, leveraging AEC’s long-standing presence in the music education sector. AEC’s responsibilities in the project included:
- Developing and implementing the communication and dissemination plan.
● Using its channels to promote project outcomes to the wider Higher Music Education community
● Presenting HarMA HUB at AEC’s flagship annual event
● Support with promoting the dissemination seminar, supporting partners in disseminating results.
With the HarMA HUB project ending, some of the Harma events will still continue to take place.
- The HarMA Week for Students will be held at the Ferenc Liszt Academy, Budapest, Hungary, from November 9– 13, 2026. The registration is open.
