The AEC is among 70 networks and cultural organisations that have signed a joint letter expressing their deep concern about the Council’s position on the draft budget 2024 which proposes to cut the Creative Europe programme by 40 million Euro. Such a cut will barely impact the EU’s budget savings but will significantly weaken the Creative Europe programme and cause damage to the cultural and creative sectors and industries (CCSI).

The signatories of the letter support the proposal of the Culture and Education Committee (CULT) in the European Parliament to increase the Creative Europe budget by 43 million Euros. In July, the Cultural Creators Friendship Group (CCFG) in the European Parliament also published a letter calling on the EU Member States to revise their approach. Alongside the other signatories, AEC strongly hopes that the EU will reconsider the current budget cut and will strengthen the Creative Europe programme for the year 2024 and in the future.
